Scuba Boat
A scuba boat refers to any boat carrying scuba divers.
Live-aboard can be used to describe both a dive excursion and a type
of boat. A dive trip of at least one night is generally called a live-aboard.
Live-aboard dive trips usually last from 3-14 days and involve staying
on the boat for the duration of the trip while making up to 5 dives
a day. The term is sometimes used to describe the boats that are used
for these trips.
Some scuba boats are similar to rafts, and are powered by the diver’s
fins. These are generally used for shorter distances, or to get to locations
that are inaccessible by larger boats. Often these boats have a large
diving flag to alert passing boats that a diver is near.
Other scuba boats work underwater, and are designed to transport a diver,
or divers, underwater. Some look like handheld rockets that are steered
by pointing them in the direction desired. A small propeller pushes
the scooter, as they are often called, and pulls the diver behind it
almost effortlessly. Some look like a jet ski, but function underwater
and require a slightly different set of driving skills, but can often
handle a few passengers or other payload.
