Diving Supplies

The basic diving supplies are a diving cylinder with hoses and a regulator, a wet suit, weight belt and diving fins. A scuba tank should be chosen with enough air to last for at least twice as long as planned. They can be linked together for more underwater time, and are often neutrally buoyant, which means they won’t sink, or rise if released. Most cylinders are constructed from aluminum or steel because of their ability to withstand high internal and external pressure.

Durable hoses and regulator are essential diving supplies that must be securely connected to the dive cylinder. The connections should be tightly sealed and checked by placing soapy water on all surfaces. If there is bubbling anywhere, gas is leaking and it unsafe to dive. Double and triple checking equipment and connections is recommended before any diving is attempted.

Some other diving supplies that are needed are a good wet suit. Wet suits are generally made from neoprene and come in various thicknesses. The thickness of suit used depends on the temperature of the water and how deep the intended destination is. A thicker suit will be warmer, but loses its thickness as depth increases. Some neoprene suits are pre-compressed so they don’t lose their warmth at lower depths. A weight belt neutralizes buoyancy so the diver neither sinks, nor rises underwater and fins are useful for movement through the water.
